MBi Nutraceuticals Folic Acid 60 Count
Get important protection with folic acid. This vitamin is important in genetic, metabolic, and nervous system processes.
Folic Acid-1000, also known as folate, is a water-soluble B vitamin that helps the body form red blood cells and aids in the formation of genetic material within every body cell.
Folic acid is necessary for normal neural tube formation. Studies show that the amount of folic acid needed to prevent neural tube defects is most easily obtained from fortified foods and supplements rather than food sources alone. Folic acid is responsible for the formation of healthy blood cells.
FOLIC ACID RESEARCH CONCERNING PREGNANT WOMEN
Research has shown that if all women get 400 micrograms of folic acid every day before pregnancy, neural tube defects can be reduced by 50 to 70 percent. Neural tube defects are defects that occur very early in a baby's development, within four to five weeks after conception. Research has also shown that folic acid may also prevent birth defects of the heart, limbs and face. Women planning to have a baby should increase their folate intake if they want their child to reach optimal weight, as new research links the vitamin for the first time to birth weight.
USE FOLIC ACID-1000 TO LOWER HOMOCYSTEINE LEVELS
Randomized clinical trials have demonstrated that B vitamins, particularly folic acid, significantly lower homocysteine levels associated with coronary heart disease. A recent meta-analysis by the Homocysteine Lowering Trialists' Collaboration found that folic acid therapy lowered homocysteine levels by 25%.
Other studies revealed the health benefits of folic acid in warding off Alzheimer's disease. In a study of more than 1,000 older adults, researchers found that people who have high levels of harmful homocysteine in their blood are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's disease than those who do not. One of the easiest ways to lower levels of homocysteine is to get plenty of folic acid. Lowering blood homocysteine levels appear to lower the risk of coronary, cerebral, and peripheral vascular disease, as well as, dementia (Alzheimer's) and Parkinson's Disease. In the elderly, a deficiency of folic acid and Vitamin B12 may result in mental confusion.
ALL ADULTS SHOULD TAKE A FOLIC ACID SUPPLEMENT
Research has shown that folic acid can reduce neural tube defects and may also prevent birth defects of the heart, limbs and face. Other studies show that folic acid may help protect women and men from heart disease, cervical and colon cancer and possibly breast cancer. The March of Dimes recommends adults take a vitamin supplement containing folate as this form is effective and easy to use.
As a dietary supplement, take one tablet per day following a meal or as directed by your health care professional.
